About Miltrim Farms Inc.
Miltrim Farms’ history goes back to 1931 when Walter and Esther Mueller moved to Athens Wisconsin. The farm that they purchased consisted of 80 acres, 8 cows, and 50 chickens. Perseverance and hard work got them through this difficult time during the Great Depression. Having raised 5 children during this time, one of them, Martin, decided to continue the family legacy of farming. He purchased the ‘Home Farm’ from his parents in 1956 where he milked 19 cows and raised 7 heifers. In 1959 he married Elaine Polk. They had two children, Kathy and Tom. Over the next 30 years, Martin and Tom continued to farm at the original location until an opportunity arose in 1988.
A new partnership was established between Tom and Lorene Mueller, Martin and Elaine Mueller, and Scott and Kathy Trimner. A farm that was in trouble was up for sale and the 3 couples, under their new partnership, purchased this farm. What currently is the heifer farm was the starting point to where we are today. At the time, the site looked drastically different, with a small parlor and a free stall facility capable of milking 150 cows. The farm grew over the next 12 years, before a large expansion took place on the current location of the dairy site. A double 20 herring bone parlor was constructed along with a 600 cow freestall barn in 2000. Expansions continued and a new barn for dry cows and fresh cows was built in 2009, making way for the old site to become a home to all of the heifers for the dairy.
Progress continued slowly for another 10 years. In 2019, a robotic milking facility was constructed which allowed the farm to milk a total of 2500 cows. The second phase of the robotic facility was completed in 2021, bringing the total number of cows to 3000.
Today the farm is owned by the next generation. David Trimner and Andy Miller alongside their families purchased the farm from the previous generation in the summer of 2024. As they continue forward, their vision is this: To sustainably raise the bar in producing nature’s most powerful nutrition.
